Android GO overview
In essence, Google has stated that the new Android GO operating system will essentially be a lightweight version of the newly announced Android O operating system which they just unveiled at their developer conference the week. Android GO is an improvement to their previously released Android One venture which was an operating system built to run on lower end devices with low-performance specs. Google has been trying to break into the lower end smartphone market for quite some time now being that sales are low on their low-end modeled devices.
With Android GO google hopes to change the pace a bit in the lower end smartphone spectrum by providing users with an inclusive operating system that can run on devices that have less than 1GB of RAM installed on the system. Google has announced that going into the future all Android devices which have 1GB or less worth of RAM installed on the system will automatically run Android GO by default. Aside from the operating system being molded to run on devices with lower end specs Google has also stated that applications from the app store will be more optimized towards these lower-end devices.
One example of an application running is YouTube GO, Google has stated that with YouTube GO running on Android GO you will have the ability to preview frames of any video you want to watch before pressing play. One really cool thing about YouTube GO is that users will have access to premium features such as downloading videos for offline viewing for free.
The app store on the Android GO platform will host applications that are optimized for preserved battery life and improved data consumption which is a really cool feature. Third-party developers have still yet to be announced when it comes to releasing smartphones for the Android GO platform so we’ll have to wait and see what they have in store. While Google has not officially released any news about offering devices specifically tailored for the Android GO platform we can assume that in the future they will make an announcement about a flagship Android GO device as it would only make sense.
Android GO Features
There’s still a lot that we don’t quite know about the Android GO platform such as which markets will offer phones running the OS and more, however, these are all details that we can expect to see in the near future. Google has announced that it is aiming to release the new software sometime in 2018 so we can expect to hear some news from the tech giant really soon about possible updates and other news concerning the OS. Many people in India can’t afford the premium price tag of some of the higher end android smartphones so it would be a good idea for Google to target the region for it’s upcoming release of the Android GO being that so many people will be looking forward to a cost effective alternative to the relatively high price tag of most of their devices.
Operating system seems to be a promising venture for the tech company and we can’t wait to see what Google rolls out as their final product. With all of the features and perks announced at the I/O conference over the week we can be sure that for everyone who needs a cost effective alternative to the traditional Android smartphone will be excited to see what Android GO can bring to the table.
