During the Mobile World Congress this year, LG made a comeback move when they released their new LG G6 into the market. The phone of course has somehow a striking resemblance to the good old G5 that received quite a good market reception. However, this new model had added a hotter new look, a bigger display screen and a few more specs that will undoubtedly enable it to compete with the market’s “big boys”. Below, we have a LG G5 vs LG G6 comparison to evaluate how the LG G5 compares with the new LG G6.
Design: LG G5 vs LG G6
The LG G5 has a cool design with an almost plastic frame-clear top and a removable back cover. It has a USB type C port, weighs about 159g and measures (174 X 74 X 8) mm in dimensions. The phone, of course, has a removable back plastic cover and fingerprint sensor to finish its outlook. Now the G6 has a somehow differently modeled design that makes it look metallic as opposed to the plastic look of the G5. It has a very thin bezel at the top and the bottom of the phone. In addition, it also has slightly curved edges and weighs a staggering 163g. The G6 measures (149 X 72 X 8) mm. This, I must say is a slightly thinner design than the former. In addition, the G6 is now classified under the IP68 waterproof phone. This waterproof feature came with some added cost in its design, and now G6 has got no removable back cover.
Display: LG G5 vs LG G6
The G5 has a 5.3’ display screen with a pixel density of 554 PPI (Pixels per Inch). On the other hand, the G6 has a 5.7’ display with a pixel intensity of 564 PPI. G6 has a resolution of 2880 X 1440 PX and it has been flagged as the first screen to achieve an ultra-wide aspect ratio of 18:9. In summary, the G6 has an ultimately larger and sharper screen. Also, its screen will look a lot more clear and brighter than G5 screen.
here is one good reason why you will still need G5
The features outlined so far, makes G6 look superior to G5 close to every aspect. However, when we get to the Camera, G5 throws back its magic spell over G6. Surely, the overall rating of the G5 camera gives it an upper hand over the new G6. Well, both phones have the front and the rear camera as well. Then again, there are a few features that differ. The G6 has a 13MP rear camera while the G5 has got 16MP rear camera. G6 gives you a 5MP front camera when the good old G5 gives you an 8MP front camera. Now, if you love photos, which other phone do you think will make you the offer G5 makes?
Other Features: LG G5 vs LG G6
Memory: the two phones do not differ much in the memory aspect. Both have the same processor of 2.35GHz and a 4GB RAM. Besides, they also support a 32GB ROM even though G6 has an option for a 64GB ROM (at some little added cost of course).
Battery: The G6 has a charge capacity of 3300mAh while G5 has got 2800mAh. This means the G6 will be able to retain power longer than the G5. In addition, LG introduced the wireless charging feature for G6 which isn’t present in G5.
Software: both devices support nearly all modern Android applications. Even so, I have to clarify that only LG G6, Google Pixel and Pixel XL devices support Google Assistant so far.
Keep in mind that…
Wireless charging (in G6) is only allowed in US alone. Either G6 does not have a removable battery like G5 has.
Now, here is my take:
Both phones are really good. The LG G6 is just a fashioned model of the G5. I admit when buying phones people consider various needs. My advice to you is to read through our review and feel free to make a choice depending on your phone preferences.
