Since Nokia Company released their new brand of Nokia 3310 (2017), the whole internet has gone bizarre about this new release. Well, in an era of touchscreens and smart device technology, one may think that asking for a Nokia 3310 from the cellphone vendor is much of a TBT (Throw-Back-Thursday) than a sale. Then again, evaluating these two brands of phones discloses much than what meets the eye by a look. So, what is so new in the 2017 release? Could it be a fancy staff or just a passing wind? In this edition, I ventured to earnestly showcase some of the distinguishing features that the new phone has placed on the table. In addition, I will also try and answer what this phone is and what it is not. So, are you ready? Let’s begin with:
The 2000 release of Nokia 3310 had a great look at its release. However, if looks are something to go by, then the Nokia 3310 release of 2017 bears a better and lustrous look than its predecessor. The older release had a small 1.5-inch monochrome LCD display (showed two colors only). On the other hand, the later has a 2.5 inch colored screen. While the older model only came in a navy-blue color, the new model comes in various flashy colors and is much lighter and portable than the older model.
Phone memory & software support
The new 3310 uses Symbian-30+ Operating system. This is just a newer version of the good old Symbian OS. Now, I must clarify that Symbian is not a very flashy OS, if you are currently holding an Android or iOS controlled device, you might get this operating system a little too sketchy. Even so, this new version is a very great improvement when compared to the one used in the older version. It does support a better GUI menu, some modern apps like Opera, the new Snake game (can anyone still remember that awesome older version?), a music player and a couple of others that the older folks never enjoyed. The new version comes fully packed with a 16GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB. However, this phone has only a 2.5G network and does not support modern connectivity like Wi-Fi. Now, even if you had 32GB memory on your phone, I wonder how you will get to use it even…
Nokia 3310 Camera
Back in the year 2000, having a phone with a camera was really a dream. So, it should not shock you that the great Nokia 3310 (which was one of the most technologically advanced of its time) had no camera at all. In contrast, the new release has got one 2MP camera at the rear. Honestly, in such an age of technological complexity where phone manufacturers are producing gadgets having cameras with night-visions and autofocus features combined with 23MP resolutions, it is worthless to throw in your 2MP camera onto the show. Then again, this camera can still serve some deal just in case you may need to capture a sudden moment then your smartphone isn’t available.
Battery …31 days without charging, which other phone does that?
Now, here is where the Nokia 3310 has always thrown its magic spell. If were old enough, I guess you can still recall that great phone that stayed for 11 days after being charged, don’t you? Now, the new model will have a standby duration of 31 days or 22 hours talk time with just a single charging. I bet this is the main reason why I always adore these phones. In addition, the new model now supports USB charging and you can now plug it to power on your computer.
Nokia 3310 Pricing
Let me take you back, 17 years ago when Nokia was the market’s Big Boy, and a new Nokia 3310 was selling at a staggering $130. Now compare that with the new model with better features that sells at just $30. I mean, this phone really isn’t too expensive. So, if you got some 30 bucks, you can grab a new Nokia 3310 and have some fun.
