As been their tradition, Sony regularly releases an Xperia smartphone at Mobile World Congress (MWC). This past GSMA MWC in Barcelona Spain February 27 to March 2, this 2017 was no different as Sony unveils once again their Hand Strength cards consists of the phablet sized Xperia XA1 Ultra, the smaller XA1, the 5.2-inch Xperia XZs, and the most commendable one, the Xperia XZ Premium phablet. These four devices are expected to be release this summer or spring, while the Xperia XA1 is expected to be priced at midrange market, while the Xperia XZ and XZ Premium will be the flagship ones. For those who are curious, the Xperia XZs is the smaller brother of sony xperia xz premium that has a compromised resolution and processor to accommodate a much smaller body.
The star of Sony’s show at the Mobile World Congress, the sony xperia xz premium, is the first ever smartphone to be mechanized by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 835 processor. What’s more stunning is that is equipped with the 5.5 inch 4K HDR display that we only usually see in the latest model of television these days. According to Sony, they used the same technology in Sony BRAVIA TV technology in XZ Premium, which means that they also used their Trade mark Triluminos display in this android smartphone. Sony confer that “TRILUMINOS™ Display for a mobile device is a unique technology that can produce about 138% of the colour spectrum that standard displays show. Where every hue is beautifully intense and vivid, bringing images and movie clips to life and it selectively maps colors from a wider palette, all of life’s subtle shades are preserved. Even reds, blues, and greens, which are typically hard for screens to show accurately, look vivid and realistic. Compared to Z5, the XZ Premium comes with additional features that might tempt the smartphone consumer to try the 4K HDR display of this phone, so that they can take advantage of the selected titles on Amazon Prime video as well as on Netflix with shows such as House of Cards, Breaking Bad, and The Black List.
The Qualcomm’s newest 835 processor was first rumored to be on Galaxy S8, and as the said device was absent at MWC many were surprised when they saw the 835 chipset in sony xperia xz premium. The Snapdragon 835 chipset uses a 10 nm processes and it is expected that it can deliver a better performance and battery life though it remained to be seen, as we also awaits for the released of the XZ Premium to see how it will perform.

Though you may be surprise that the resolution was dropped to 19 megapixels this time, Sony packs it with an interesting innovation they call ‘Motion Eye”’ camera. According to Sony, the Motion Eye Camera “captures motion that the human eye can’t see.”. True enough, this is the first ever smartphone to deliver super slow motion video at an extraordinarily 960 frames per second. Another feature of the camera is the predictive capture where the camera detects the motion and it takes four photos before you even press the shutter button. The front-facing camera is still at 13 megapixels in a 22 mm lens at f/2 aperture. The sony xperia xz premium also comes with in Sony’s standard 64 GB of storage with support for a Micro SD card, with 4GB of RAM and a 3230 mAh battery, and still has athe fast and accurate fingerprint scanner.
There’s no doubt that the Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium is an excellent phone that contains some of the finest innovations in the camera and display departments, aside from the fact that it runs in the latest 835 chipset. It remains to be seen how will Sony will priced this smartphone, and how it will fare with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6, and the Apple’s iPhone.
