Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Pro last year in China, which offers an OLED display and a dual camera set up at the back. A year later, it looks like the successor to that well-acknowledged smartphone is set for release this first quarter of 2017. It was first known when information surfaced on the Chinese blogging website, the Weibo in January 2017. At that time, the legitimacy of that information has not yet been confirmed (Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2), but the user who posted the information claims that his posted image is a legitimate product description for the upcoming Xiaomi device.
At this time, the alleged specifications of the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 is that it will be a two variants phone. One variant is a premium phone that is packed with 6 GB of working memory and 128 GB of internal storage. There’s also a cheaper version with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage and it still sports the same 5.5 inch full HD Chinese made OLED display like its predecessor. It was also rumored that unlike the last year’s Xiaomi Redmi Pro, the successor will only feature one camera on the back, which is a 12 megapixel shooter powered by a Sony IMX362 sensor with Dual Pixel autofocus at its core. It is also stated that both variants of the Redmi Pro were powered by the Snapdragon 66x chipset, which is different from the first Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 that is being powered by a MediaTek CPU, while the battery is also different from last year, as the already huge 4050 mAh of battery capacity will be bumped up to a 4500 mAh one. In addition, one interesting bit of information on the leaked post on Weibo is the price for both upcoming versions of the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2. The 4 GB RAM version with 64 GB of internal storage is said to be priced at around $230, while the premium version with 6 GB of working memory and 128 GB of internal storage will be priced at roughly $260.
Months passed since the post of the allegedly Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 was leaked on Weibo and now it is said to be launched soon (first reported as later dates in March) and based on the report of GizmoChina it will still be packed the same dual camera set up as its predecessor. Another rumor, based on reports of Xiaomi Today suggested that the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 phone will be powered by the MediaTek Helio P25 processor instead of the not-yet-announced Snapdragon 660 and also stated that the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 will be a 12MP dual ISP as it is supported by the MediaTek P25 processor. Another rumor, based on giamochina.com "stated that the details include an all-metal body, 2.5D curved glass, a large 4500mAh battery, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and another version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The 4GB + 64GB version is said to be priced at 1599 Yuan ($231), while the 6GB + 128GB version comes in at 1799 Yuan ($260)".
These were all just leaks, so let’s all wait for Xiaomi’s official announcement for any confirmation regarding the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2. Xiaomi fans out there can still mark the calendar on April 16 as well, as Xiaomi is said to then unveil the new Mi 6 and the Mi 6 Plus and maybe we can then get the news about the Redmi Pro 2 as well.
