What Are SWIFT/BIC Codes?

SWIFT stands for Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication and it is a term used in the financial world when handling business operations and international payments. The SWIFT code is now standardized as BIC or Business Identifier Code.

The both terms SWIFT code, and BIC code are used today actually and have the exact same meaning. The BIC code is an alphanumeric identification code which consists of a combination of letters and numbers. The BIC code is used to identify a bank or other financial institution among the members of the SWIFT network.

Why You Need SWIFT or BIC Code?

These codes are commonly required during a money transferring process (between two banks that are members of the SWIFT network). So, when sending an international payment we are not only asked to submit the bank account number or the IBAN number that we want to send money to, but we are asked also to provide the BIC code of the bank.

The SWIFT/BIC Finder simplify the process of finding this code.

How to Use Our SWIFT/BIC Finder

You need to know that the SWIFT code consists of 8 or 11 characters. This is a standard format standardized by the International Organization for Standardization or ISO. The first 4 characters identify the bank and these 4 characters are used to identify a particular bank or financial institution’s branches all over the globe. The 5th and 6th characters identify the country in which the bank is based. The 7th and 8th characters identify the location code and the last 3 characters for the branch code.
